Why we can give this away

The expensive part of an SEO tool isn't the software — it's crawling the web. We don't crawl it. We build on Common Crawl, an open dataset that already covers billions of pages, so serving one more lookup costs us close to nothing.

What you get free

Authority scores, referring domains, link intersect, global ranks — for any domain, as often as you like.

What we charge for

Things that cost us money every time they run: continuous monitoring, rank tracking, keyword volumes, scheduled audits and alerts.

What we won't pretend

Our link data refreshes with each Common Crawl release, not hourly. If you need links discovered this morning, Ahrefs is genuinely better. We'll say so.

Only 7 domains on the entire web score 90 or above

We measured the authority distribution of all 118 million domains in our index. The results contradict the usual advice: sites in the 30–39 band have a lower median number of referring domains than sites in the 20–29 band. More links is not the same as more authority.
